The First Steps - But Why am I Scared?

At 44 I have decided to pull the trigger and get my mouth wired. Well, okay it's taken me about 15 years to finally decide to get braces. Three weeks ago I finally followed through on an ortho consult. Like I expected he told me I needed braces and that I was not a good candidate for Invisalign.

After sitting through the process to make molds and having some of the most attractive pictures of my mouth taken I was sent home to wait.

A week later the dentist gave me the news: Four teeth need to be yanked out; two on top and two on bottom and then my mouth can be wired and all will be good.

I set the appointment for the extraction for a week later. I then cancelled the appointment two days before the extraction. Talk about being a little nervous..I was having second, third and fourth thoughts.

This morning my dentists called and the nice lady wanted to reschedule the extraction and the spacer appointment. The lady didn't really want to take "no" for an answer an didn't want to be a wimp so I recommitted myself to what I hope will be worth it.

May 20th is the extraction, May 25th I get spacers and then shortly after that I will be a Bird on a wire. Stay tuned for the fun that will follow.
